Tom Sparta
Oct 29, 2018
WPPTA lost a good friend when Tom Sparta passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Tom was an avid tennis and paddle player, playing for Mt. Lebanon 5 for the past 10+ years as they climbed the Men's League ranks into Div. 2. He enjoyed the competition immensely, but the comaradery even more.

Tom was originally from Michigan and graduated from Lafayette College in 1981. He worked for Dow Chemical, Bayer and Lanxess. He lived in California, Louisiana and Indiana before moving to western Pennsylvania in 1999. He then took up paddle and jumped in with both feet. He played and practiced during the season, played summer league and played frequently with the guys at North Park and Fox Chapel Racquet Club. He loved his friends and his family very much. He has left a huge hole in our lives.

Tom is survived by his wife Kristi and four boys; Chris, Alex, Mike and Joe."

This tribute was put together with his wife's blessing by Tom's college roommate and ML5 teammate, Phil Duvall, as related by teammate Johan Smit. I speak for all his W. PA tennis and paddle friends in saying Tom was a joy to be around and will be greatly missed. Our condolences and best wishes go out to his family.
